How it decides
It reads the camera, not a guess
The source profile comes from the file's own metadata where it exists, so a log clip is recognised as log instead of being treated as a badly exposed one.
Correction first, look second
The conversion to a normal picture happens before any stylistic grade, which is the order a colourist works in and the reason a look applied to raw log never quite lands.
What you control
Things you can type. The editor answers to language, not menus.
- warmer, and lift the shadows a little
- match the second camera to the first
- keep it neutral — no look, just correct
What it won't do
- It won't rescue a clipped highlight. Detail the sensor never recorded can't be graded back in.
- It won't apply a look to log footage without converting first — you'd get a muddy picture, so it corrects even if you only asked for a look.
