The editor, part by part

What each area of the editor is for, and which ones you can ignore.

The editor has more on screen than you need on day one. Here's what everything is, in the order you're likely to meet it.

The prompt box

Bottom of the screen. This is the main way you work — describe a change and it happens. Everything else on this page is optional.

The mic icon lets you say it instead of typing.

The preview

The video as it currently stands. The scrubber underneath moves the playhead; the controls are disabled until enough of the video has loaded to seek reliably.

The left rail

  • Projects — everything you've made. Search appears once you have a few.
  • Videos — the footage in this project. Upload more here, or drag several in at once.
  • Transcription — every word, with timings. Click a line to jump there. Select words and use Highlight to restyle them by hand.
  • Quick Tools — one-tap versions of the heavier operations. See Quick tools.

The timeline

Below the preview. Shows your clips, captions, audio and overlays as tracks.

You don't have to use it. It's there for when you want to nudge something directly rather than describe it, and for seeing what the editor did.

The top bar

Project name, aspect ratio, undo/redo, History, credits, and Export.

History is worth knowing about early — it lists every checkpoint on the project and lets you go back to any of them. See Projects, versions and undo.

Chat

The right panel narrates what changed after each edit, so you always have a record of what was done and why.
