Uploading footage
What ClipWith accepts, what happens after an upload, and how to bring in a link instead of a file.
You can start from a file on your device or from a link to a video that's already online.
From a file
Drag footage onto the editor, or use the upload button on the start screen. You can select several clips at once — they're added to the timeline end to end, in the order you picked them.
Uploads go straight to storage rather than through our servers, so a multi-gigabyte recording works the same as a short clip. Large files are sent in chunks; if your connection drops mid-upload, the parts already sent aren't lost.
Accepted: MP4, MOV and WebM video; MP3, WAV and M4A audio.
Size limits depend on your plan. Free accounts are capped at 500 MB and 10 minutes per upload; paid plans go up from there, with Pro and above having no duration cap.
From a link
Paste a link on the start screen instead. ClipWith pulls the video down itself, which saves you downloading hours of VOD only to upload it again.
Supported: YouTube, Twitch, Kick, Vimeo and TikTok.
A long VOD can take a few minutes to fetch. The editor stays usable while it works, and the clip appears on the timeline when it lands.
What happens next
Once footage arrives, a few things run on their own:
- Transcription, word by word, so cuts can land between words rather than through them.
- Visual indexing on paid plans — the video is watched, so later prompts can refer to what's actually on screen.
- Colour profile detection, which is how log footage gets offered a correction.
You don't have to wait for these to finish before editing, but prompts that depend on seeing the video will be better once indexing completes.
